TORTURE CELL, WEAPONS AND DRUGS RECOVERED Search operation in various areas of city, 78 nabbed

KARACHI, Dec 14: The Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) apprehended at least 78 suspects in search operations from various areas of the metropolis in the small hours of Wednesday. The suspects have been held in connection of on going blasts and targeted killings in the city. Police have also recovered weapons and drugs from the possession of the arrested persons.
As per details, in Pak Colony, Jahan Abad and Taimoria areas police conducted door to door search operation after mid night and held seven suspected criminals. During the search operation, in Saleh Mohammed Village, police also blew the lid of torture cells and gambling dens. Some clothes with blood stains on them were also recovered besides receipts of extortion. Four activists of Lyari Gang War were nabbed from the torture cell.
According to SSP West, police have recovered six bikes, bottles of alcohol and hashish from the hideouts. According to sources some big time players managed to flee the crime scene before the operation but police claims they have nabbed four top criminals in the operation.
In another operation in Sherpao Basti, KBR Society and Brohi Goth at least 39 suspects were held by Bahadurabad Police while 30 more suspected figures were rounded up from Gulberg area. A police official said the picture would become clear after investigations.

Firing in Sherpao Basti

Today the Awami National Party activists in the Basti came out to terrorise the legal residents of the neighbourhood by firing thousands of live rounds of ammunition. There were patients in a nearby clinic who were seriously disturbed by the firing. The firing has since sporadically continued.

Sherpao Basti---an Introduction

Sherpao Basti  is the name of an illegal settlement or 'katchi abadi' in Karachi which harbours Terrorists, Criminals and Suicide-Bombers located between Mohammad Ali Housing Society and Karachi Development Authority Scheme-1. It has been colonised by these extremely dangerous elements since the encroachments began on an amenity plot owned by Mohammad Ali Housing Society in the early 1970's. Needless to say today the Basti has a few hundred thousand residents with illegal water and power connections which have come about as the result of the corruption and connivance of the local authorities and the police. The Basti is also strategically located near the Karachi American School which is the official school of the US Consulate-General in Karachi, Pakistan. The local builder mafia also appears to have a stake in the Basti by trying to buy out the houses and on the pretext of doing social work amongst the women and children of the Basti. In short the Basti and its terrorists need to be eliminated as soon as possible which is a task becoming more difficult with each passing day. Today, shots have been ringing out of the Basti since the evening and it appears that the legal residents of Mohammad Ali Housing Society are in for another tense night.
